June 15. Church on Sunday

Today was Sunday when I usually go to church. Although I was in different place, there was no exception; I went to church in Sierra Leone. About 22% of populations are Christians, while the majority of people are Muslims in Sierra Leone. Pastor Israel picked me up this morning. We took 3 different taxies to go to church; taxi drivers allowed other passengers to get in their cars if the direction was the same, and we could not decide a direct way to the church. The sermon began at 9:30 am, and people gathered little by little, up to 150.

The sermon was powerful, inspiring and energetic. For hymn, a little young kid came up to the stage and led a song. Hymn was vivid, and they danced around. Korean church in the U.S. normally tends to be moved and sorrow, but African church was cheerful, exciting, and joyous. We must be happy because we meet God every Sunday!

English is the official language of Sierra Leone, so sermon was mostly spoken in English. Unfortunately, I only understood half of their sermon because of the different pronunciation and accent. However, the most important thing was that I could feel their passion to get close to God. Beyond the scope of language, the Bible says an unchanging truth, and human beings are able to form a whole in the name of Jesus Christ, regardless of age, sex, and race.
