June 13. II. Esther

I arrived at the office early and went to place for devotion. Nobody was there yet, and I wanted to read Esther chapter with some reasons. It was only 10-minute meditation, I felt Esther’s full of energy. Queen Esther did not fear death to save her people, Jews. Her braveness and courage inspires me to move forward, step by step, here in Sierra Leone.

Surprisingly, pastor Israel chose Esther 6:1-14 for today’s devotion. It is too striking to be coincidental. Mordecai did not receive any honor or recognition even though he saved king’s life. King realized this truth later and commanded Haman to get the robe and horse through the city streets, proclaiming before Mordecai. Obviously, Haman must have been jealous of Mordecai. Haman’s greed and vanity was a total contrast with Mordecai.

Recognition and reputation. What are we seeking? Are we doing good to gain recognition? Or doing good from true in our mind? If no one recognize or understand me, would I keep doing for that? It is hard to tell that we can always work hard even if we are not recognized. However, I believe World Vision Sierra Leone (WVSL) is doing the best to overcome Ebola outbreak. People in Freetown can get news from newspaper or television; on the other hand, people in rural area does not still believe that Ebola is real. They think Ebola is just a myth. How can we let them know? Is WVSL influential enough to change people’s life to avoid Ebola? Even though WVSL’s effort does not reach all Districts, their genuine endeavor to preach the gospel and prevent further Ebola victims will be recognized one day or other.
